Welcome from the President
Welcome to The New Teachers College where scholarship, commitment and passion set the pace. The New Teachers College is exactly what its name states: a new graduate college of education devoted to teacher training. There is a growing need to prepare knowledgeable and skilled teachers who understand and can work within the emerging paradigm where students’ needs, interests and development must be merged with hands-on, conceptual teaching. The College was founded to address this need.
The College identifies itself as a teaching institution. The College will carry out this mission with its graduate students who are practicing teachers seeking a master’s degree or with those who are seeking initial teaching licensure in Ohio. Our single-focused graduate program offers these two tracks – a one year, site-based, teacher apprentice program developed for alternative licensure – and our innovative Fellows Program, a two year cohort program leading to the master’s degree for practicing teachers. Our emphasis on bringing the college to the school classroom in a site-based model provides a link between theory and practice that is so important.
While innovative and cutting-edge, our program is based on what we know about how all children learn. In that sense, our program is universal and will prepare you or enhance your teaching anywhere – public, independent or parochial.
We are looking for students who share our commitment, scholarship and passion about teaching.

Mission of the College
“Dedicated to the education of children, the mission of The New Teachers College is to enrich the professional practice of existing classroom teachers and to provide an innovative, site-based, apprenticeship program for the initial preparation of teachers. We believe this is best accomplished in settings where the school classroom serves as the learning laboratory and in an environment that fosters scholarship, commitment and passion.”
The College is an institution committed to excellence in teaching. We believe that teaching for meaningful learning is the goal of education, whether one is teaching children or graduate students, or providing professional development to a wider educational community.

The College was founded to provide an innovative master’s degree program for both practicing teachers and for those who want to enter the field. The College works with area schools and districts to bring its cohort master’s degree program for practicing teachers to the schools, classrooms and students where the graduate students are working. Similarly, the College has established partnerships with The Intergenerational School, one of the country’s leading public charter schools, and with The Ratner School, an innovative independent school providing individualized instruction for children in grades Pre-K to eight. Graduate students enrolled in the Teacher Apprentice Program carry out their apprenticeships in one of these partner schools.
