Admissions

The office of the Graduate School of Education oversees admissions and advisement for those interested in any of the College’s programs. The Graduate School is responsible for admitting students and for conducting transfer-of-credit and life experience evaluations for students as they are admitted.

Persons seeking admission to the College’s master’s degree programs must meet the following requirements:

- Completed application form

- Teacher Apprentice Program (PDF)

- Fellows Program (PDF)

- A recommended undergraduate GPA of 3.0. (conditional acceptances can be granted to students with less than a 3.0 GPA)

- Original transcripts from all institutions attended

- A resume

- Three letters of recommendation

- An original essay related to this program to which the student is applying (the Teacher Apprentice Program or the Fellows Program)

- Initial interview with the Graduate Dean

- Visit/tour of the school and classrooms and informal interviews with current mentors and apprentices for those applying to the Teacher Apprentice Program

- Final panel interview for those applying to the Teacher Apprentice Program

-------------------------------------------------

Those interested in more information about the graduate programs are encouraged to call the Graduate School Office at 216-382-8343 to speak to the Dean or to request a packet of information by calling or emailing the Graduate Office at info@tntc.edu. The packet includes an application form. Additionally, individuals can apply online. There is no fee for applying to graduate programs at The New Teachers College.

The formal application process begins with the completion of an application file. The file includes a completed application form, a resume, official transcripts and three letters of recommendation.

Candidates applying to the Fellows Program will receive notification from the Graduate Office regarding their admissions status.

Candidates applying to the Teacher Apprentice Program will identify the partner schools where they are interested in apprenticing. A visit to each chosen site is a requirement of the application process. The nature of a year long apprenticeship program virtually mandates that there be a good “fit” for both the school and the apprentice. This visit includes a tour of the building, visits to classrooms in the grade level of licensure, and informal meetings with the school’s administration, mentors and current graduate student teacher apprentices.

Strong candidates are asked to return to the site school for a third and final interview. This is a panel interview composed of three to five people and includes the Dean, an administrator from the site school, and mentor teachers. Final acceptance determinations are made by this panel.
